White Hot Chocolate Snowballs

Hot Chocolate Bombs!

Baby… it’s cold outside!!!!

These White chocolate snowballs warm you up in one instant. They are referred to more commonly as Hot Chocolate bombs. A hollow chocolate sphere that is filled with cocoa, marshmallows and sprinkles. They are a huge hit as they are simple to make and super fun to put into a mug and pour warm milk over. Then you sit back and watch them melt into the milk and the marshmallows come flying up to the top of the mug.

We also experimented with different types of chocolates and the clear winner is Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers and White Chocolate Melting Wafers. They are easier to handle. Which comes in handy when you push the bombs out of the mold.

Listen up,  if you want a bit of a challenge then use any kind of chocolate, we have used semi-sweet chocolate chips and it works. Make sure the layer is thick and be prepared because the finer the chocolate the more it will melt in your hands! You don't want fingerprints on these beauties.

Another tip is to place the spheres into a silicone cupcake holder. This assures there is no extra handling until the ball is actually dropped into the mug.

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 cup of white chocolate wafers on the stove on a double boiler or use a saucepan on low heat and melt the wafers, continually stir as they melt.
  2. Once the chocolate has melted, spoon the chocolate into the mold and take the spoon and run it along the inside of it until a smooth layer has been created. You will need to have two per one ball. Repeat until all half spheres have a chocolate layer and then set in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Pull the two molds out of the fridge and then gently press the chocolate spheres out of the mold by applying pressure to the center of the mold from the outside.
  4. Once they are out, pop them into a silicone cupcake holder. Using a spoon add the hot chocolate mix, miniature marshmallows, and 1 teaspoon of sprinkles.
  5. Take a plate and warm it up in the microwave for 45 seconds. Place the sphere that is empty on the plate and swirl till you see a little melted chocolate on the plate. Then place the same half-sphere on a half-sphere that is filled with chocolate mixture and lightly press down. Repeat for all.
  6. Set in the fridge for five minutes. As they are setting again, melt 1/4 cup of chocolate wafers for garnish. Take the molds out of the fridge and set them to the side.
  7. Dip and coat a spoon with chocolate and with a quick motion drizzle it over the chocolate bomb. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of sprinkle goodness.
  8. Place the bomb into a cup and pour the hot milk over them and watch the snowball explode! Stir and enjoy!
